WATER
People on these plots have always had to be self-reliant when it comes to watering their plants – there is no easy access from a tap.
Some use huge tanks or water butts which fill from sheds or garage roofs. Others have built or discovered wells on their plots.
Margaret Bowen is currently undertaking a survey of the various sources of ground water on the plot, like the brick-lined wells, and tanks sunk into the ground. She is in the process of photographing and mapping them on a plan of the site – so keep an eye on this page as it gets updated.
